Personal InformationI was born in September 1977 in Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira Island, Azores). I am graduated in Environmental Engineering (since 2002) by the University of Azores, Agrarian Sciences Department, where I also worked until August 2005, as a Technician at the Instrumental Analysis Laboratory and as an Assistant Professor teaching Organic Chemistry and supporting other classes such as General Chemistry, Techniques in the Laboratory, Analytical Control of the Environment, Ecotoxicology and Public Health.
Presently, living in Lisbon (Portugal), I am working in MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, Faculty of Sciences University of Lisbon, since April 2006, and at the National Museum of Natural History and Science (Lisbon), since May 2014. My work is focused on monitoring studies based in biological communities, genetics and biotic indices. I have a MSc in Fisheries and Aquaculture (Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, since 2009) and presently I am finishing my PhD. Thesis (Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon and the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP), CA, USA) focused on environmental quality of the low salinity environments. Also, I am a scientific researcher working at MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. My main interests are Monitoring studies based on biological communities, especially benthic macroinvertebrates, Freshwater, Estuaries and Marine Ecology, Ecological Quality Status, Biotic Indices and Genetics including DNA barcoding and Phylogeny. My master's thesis was about the ecology and evaluation of the benthic resources from the freshwater-brackish water transitional zone in the Mira River estuary, located in the Southwest Portugal and my PhD. thesis main goal is the assessment of the ecological quality status of the freshwater-estuarine interface of the rivers using benthic invertebrates' communities, based on DNA barcoding. Hobbies: Cinema, music, read, dancing, study and dinner with friends. |
